Sports Medicine

School SportsThroughout the United States "team doctors" are used for professional sports as well as elementary, junior high, and high school football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, handball, rugby, soccer, and the Olympic team. Team doctors also help non-team players like those who engage in tennis, swimming, golf, track-field, and "weekend warriors." In all these sports our doctors help keep the athlete on the field, back to work or school. At Denville Medical Sports & Rehabilition Center, we help stop minor injuries from becoming major ones without the use of drugs or surgery unless, absolutely necessary, at which time our medical staff can initiate care.

And let us not forget the people who regularly perform aerobic workouts. Exercise workouts are much more effective when the body is balanced. "Getting in shape" should always include the Denville Medical Team, medical doctors to treat acute and chronic injuries with additional care when needed, physical and massage therapists to treat the soft tissue injuries, Chiropractors to correct and balance the spine and related extremities at the joint level. Also we have a podiatrist in the event that the feet are involved in the injury of the musculo-skeletal system.

Professional Athletes
Golf, tennis, racquetball, and handball. Swinging a club or racquet or throwing a ball (all one-sided activities) can cause the body to lose its natural balance and mobility, especially when action is performed by a beginning player or "weekend athlete."

But even gentler sports can create damage from micro-trauma rather than macro-trauma.

No one could compare a leisurely game of billiards, pool or table tennis to the collisions of football, soccer, or rugby, but micro-trauma caused by repeating the same movement can eventually wear down a body part as severely as colliding with a defensive lineman or running into a wall.

The Team Approach to Health Care

Team SportsPhysical Medicine balances the muscular skeletal system and relieves mechanical and structural stress on the nervous system. Sports injuries nearly always jar and misalign the spinal column. In fact, almost all the trauma to the body affects the spinal column because the spine is at the center of the body. A blow to the ribs, legs, feet, head, shoulders, or torso radiates to the spine. Thus anyone who plays any sport needs checkups to ensure that his/her body is balanced and free from structural stress and subluxations (misaligned vertebrae causing "pinched nerves"). There is no question that an athlete performs better when the spinal column and related joints are balanced. That is why we employ a team approach of Medical Doctors, Chiropractors and Physical Therapists to provide the most complete and effective care.

Weekend Warriors

Weekend Warriors
You don't have to be an Olympian, professional athlete, or team member to benefit from the advanced team approach to physical medicine at Denville Medical. Americans suffer from 17 million sports related injuries each year and everyone with such an injury needs a team approach for total health.
