The GFWC Woman’s Club of Denville Rockaway Area recently hosted a celebration for the new President of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs at the Denville Town Hall Community Room. Barbara McCloskey was installed as the 59th President at the NJSFWC Annual Convention on May 7th for the 2024-2026 term of office.
Over 75 women from the NJSFWC Highlands District clubs were present to celebrate Barbara’s new position in the Federation.
Anthony Bucco, New Jersey State Senator, Thomas Andes, Mayor, Township of Denville, and Joseph Jackson, Mayor of Rockaway Township were in attendance. They acknowledged the women’s clubs' impact on the community and wished Barbara success in her new position. Senator Bucco resented Barbara a Joint Legislative Resolution from the NJ Senate and General Assembly, and Mayor Andes presented Barbara with a Proclamation for her service.

Barbara McCloskey outlined the goals for her new administration, including the Federation Special State Project, and the New Jersey Children’s Alliance.
A long-term Rockaway resident, Barbara has been a member of the federation for 37 years. She joined the Denville Junior Woman’s Club in 1987, where she held a variety of board positions, including President, Conservation Chairman, and Membership Liaison.
She joined the Woman’s Club of the Denville-Rockaway Area in 1998, where she served as President for several terms, a total of 12 years. On the district level, Barbara held the positions of Highlands District Assistant, Communications, Conservation and Home Life Chairman.
On the NJSFWC Board of Directors, Barbara held the positions of Communications Chairman, Highlands District Vice President, Webmaster, Third Vice President, Second Vice President, and President-Elect.
Barbara is also a member of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Boonton, Junior Ex Club, Phoenix Club and the Past Presidents Club of the Highlands District.
On a professional level, Barbara worked for the Land Conservancy of New Jersey for 18 years as their Membership and Outreach Manager, organizing one-day stewardship projects with corporate volunteers in locations throughout northern New Jersey. She is a resident of Rockaway Borough for 42 years, is married with two adult children and two grandchildren.
The New Jersey State Federations of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC), is a volunteer community service organization founded in 1894 and is headquartered on the Douglass Residential College campus of Rutgers University. The NJSFWC founded the New Jersey College for Women, now known as Douglass Residential College, in 1918.
