What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic, or chiropractic manipulation, is a treatment where chiropractors move parts of your body to cure various ailments and/or promote healing and wellness. It’s not new—chiropractic medicine has been around since the 1800s and has evolved to include a sophisticated understanding of how the parts of your body work together to be healthy and pain-free.

What are the benefits of seeing a chiropractor?

Patients who come in for Chiropractic treatments ultimately have a goal to live happy, healthy, and pain-free. Either on its own or as part of a comprehensive plan, Chiropractic medicine may reduce or alleviate pain, get rid of stiffness, help people achieve greater range of motion, reduce stress, increase energy, and add to an overall healthy and active lifestyle.

Few people realize that physical medicine offered at Denville can have great positive effects on their entire body.

Nerve flow that originates from the brain and travels through the spinal cord can be interrupted, appearing sometimes as misalignments in the spine. These problems can result in malfunction and even lead to more serious diseases. Restoring nerve flow by correcting skeletal misalignments feeds the tissues and organs with vital nutrients and nerve flow information for proper function, which enables the body to again heal itself.

Who can benefit from chiropractic?

Most often, people consider seeing a chiropractor because of musculoskeletal pain. Often we see patients with back, shoulder, or neck pain or stiffness, other joint or extremity pain, injuries from sports, work, or accidents, migraine sufferers, or people with ailments like sciatica. It’s not uncommon for pregnant women, people suffering from persistent stress or fatigue, or people with issues like arthritis, TMJ, or carpal tunnel to see a chiropractor.

What is chiropractic treatment like?

People usually have the idea that going to the chiropractor is just having someone “crack” your joints or parts of your body, that’s an incorrect and potentially harmful idea. Just because you can “crack” a part of your body, that doesn’t mean it’s helping anything—and you can do damage if you don’t know what you’re doing!

What you can expect from Chiropractic treatment is one-on-one consultation with a chiropractor who will talk to you about what you are experiencing and what you hope to gain from treatment. Manipulation includes gentle movements and quick manipulations that are highly controlled and strategic, relating exactly to what is happening in your body and what is causing problems that need to be addressed. Treatment doesn’t hurt, though some people may feel soreness after an adjustment. If you have any concerns at all about the treatment, make sure to speak to the chiropractor about what he or she plans to do and how you can expect to feel afterward.
